Overseas voting for the 2010 House of Assembly elections

Early voting for the 2010 House of Assembly election has now closed.

Polling places are open from 8am to 6pm on Saturday 20 March.

You can vote at any polling place in Tasmania regardless of your division.

Overseas voters can now receive ballot papers for the House of Assembly elections in one of two ways:

  • By email (express vote) – quicker, but the complete secrecy of your vote cannot be guaranteed

  • By post (postal vote) – slower, but the secrecy of your vote is assured.

Applying for an express vote

Voters situated overseas during the election will soon be able to request a special express vote.  Those requesting an express vote will either be emailed or faxed:

  • An express vote declaration form and

  • A ballot paper for the division in which they are enrolled

The voter must print and complete the declaration form and the ballot paper and return them:

  • as digital (scanned) images attached to a return email,

  • by fax to 03 6224 0217, or

  • by post to

Applying for a postal vote

You can no longer apply for an Overseas postal vote (as at 17 March)

Voters situated overseas during the election can still request a postal vote to be mailed to an overseas address.  Postal votes are sent through normal mail services, which may take some time to be delivered.

The postal vote must be completed and placed in the mail by polling day.  There are 10 days following polling day in which the TEC can receive returned postal votes.  Votes received after the 10-day period cannot be included in the election.
