Prepoll vote information

Early voting for the 2010 House of Assembly election has now closed.

Polling places are open from 8am to 6pm on Saturday 20 March.

You can vote at any polling place in Tasmania regardless of your division.

If you are going to be out of your division, or for some other valid reason not able to vote in person on polling day, you must vote early.  You can vote early at locations in Burnie, Launceston and Hobart.  Additional pre-poll centres will be provided in the week before polling day in Devonport, Kingston and Rosny.

Pre-poll voting centres

Open from Tuesday 9 March (normal hours 9am to 5pm – open until 6pm Friday 19 March):

Hobart – 130 Collins Street (opposite Harris Scarfe),

Launceston – 47 Cameron Street,

Burnie – 2nd floor, Harris Building, 49 Cattley Street

Open from Monday 15 March (normal hours 9:30am to 5pm – open until 6pm Friday19 March):

Devonport – State Library, 21 Oldaker Street

Glenorchy – State Library, 4 Terry Street

Kingston – State Library, 11 Hutchins Street

Rosny – State Library, Bligh Street

Tasmanian electors travelling interstate can vote early at any Australian Electoral Commission Divisional Office. Call 13 23 26 or go to the AEC website for the nearest location.

Need a postal vote

If you need a postal vote for the 2010 House of Assembly elections you must first apply.

You can obtain a postal vote application from any post office from any electoral office or print the online postal vote application.

Overseas electors

Overseas electors can either apply online for a postal vote or a new express vote.

Return of applications

Applications for a postal vote must reach the returning officer before:

  • sent within Australia – 6.00pm Thursday 18 March 2010; or

  • sent from overseas – 6.00pm Tuesday 16 March 2010.

Return of Postal votes

An elector who has applied for and received a postal vote must, before the close of polling, complete the ballot paper, place it in the declaration envelope, sign the declaration; and

  • post it to the returning officer; or

  • deliver it to a polling place before close of polling.

The returning officer may receive envelopes until 10.00am Tuesday 30 March 2010.
