Enrolling for Legislative Council elections
To vote in a Legislative Council election you first need to be enrolled.
You are eligible to enrol for Federal and Tasmanian elections if:
you are 17 years of age or older; and
you are an Australian citizen; and
you have lived at your present address for at least the last month.
You may enrol when you are 17, but you cannot vote unless you turn 18 on or before polling day.
British subjects who are not Australian citizens are eligible to enrol for Federal and Tasmanian elections if they were on a Commonwealth of Australia electoral roll on 25 January 1984.
The electoral rolls for the 2010 Legislative Council elections have now closed.
If you have moved house since you last voted, you will need to update your enrolment information.

The writ
The writ is a document which requires the returning officer to hold an election and specifies the dates for the close of nominations, polling day, and the last possible date for the return of the writ.
Legislative Council elections begin with the issue of the writ and end with the return of the writ.
For the 2010 Legislative Council Election, the Governor issued two writs: one for the division of Apsley and one for the division of Elwick. This occurred on 31st March 2010 this is also the day the rolls closed for the elections.
