Ways to Vote at the 2020 Legislative Council Elections

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission provides a number of services to help you have your say in the Huon and Rosevears Legislative Council elections.








Polling day

Vote in person from 8am to 6pm Saturday 1 August 2020 at a polling place near you.

The TEC's electronic roll means you can vote at any polling place in Tasmania.

Unable to vote on polling day?

The TEC has a number of services to help you have your say at Tasmanian elections.

If you are unable to vote on polling day, you must vote early. You can vote in person at a pre-poll centre, or apply for a postal vote .


 New, earlier closing date for all postal vote applications - 4pm Friday 24 July 2020.

Need assistance at a polling place?

Mobility impaired or sensory sensitive electors –

  • Desktop voting screen at lower height.
  • Car-side voting - on request, the Polling Place Manager can bring ballot material out to your vehicle in the carpark.

Blind and vision impaired electors –
A computer-based system enabling you to vote independently - VI-Vote locations

How -

  1. You attend a pre-poll centre
  2. You declare you are unable to attend a polling place on polling day
  3. You record your vote and place it in the ballot box

Due to state and national restrictions in place to help stop the spread of coronavirus, there is no mobile or interstate voting for these elections.





Postal vote

Postal vote applications have now closed.

 For electors who are:

How -

  1. You apply for a postal vote
  2. We check your enrolment and send you a ballot pack
  3. You record your vote and post it back

When -

Apply as soon as possible. Remember, postal services can be slow.

The new earlier closing date for all postal vote applications is 4pm Friday 24 July 2020.

Returning your vote

You must record your vote before 6pm on polling day, Saturday 1 August.

We can receive postal ballot papers until 10am Tuesday 11 August.

Like ordinary and pre-poll voting, postal voting maintains the secrecy of the vote.

Vi-Vote

The TEC has a computer based system (VI-Vote) to assist vision impaired electors to cast their vote. VI-Vote systems are available here:
