Ways to vote

Polling day for the 2024 Legislative Councils Elections is Saturday 4 May. The divisions are Elwick, Hobart, and Prosser.

Voting is compulsory.

You can vote in person at a polling place on polling day. If you are unable do this, you may be eligible to vote early. The following options are available:

Voting in person on polling day

You can vote in person from 8 am to 6 pm on Saturday 4 May 2024 at any polling place within the three divisions.

Voting early, in person at a pre-poll centre

If you expect to be unable to vote on polling day, there will be pre-poll voting centres available at various locations in Tasmania from Monday 15 April and one in each mainland capital city from Wednesday 17 April.

If you are interstate and overseas, telephone voting may be the most accessible option for you.

Telephone voting

If you will be interstate or overseas during the polling period, we recommend using our Telephone Assisted Voting Service.

The TEC will guide you through the voting process in a way that is designed to maintain the secrecy of your vote.

This service will be available from Monday 29 April.

Postal voting

If you are unable to vote in person, either early or on polling day, you may be eligible to vote by post. To apply, you must complete and return an application form. Applications close at 4 pm on Friday 26 April.

Postal ballot packs will be sent to approved applicants commencing Monday 15 April.

If you are interstate and overseas, telephone voting may be the most accessible option for you.

Voting at your nursing home or hospital

The TEC sends mobile voting teams to nursing homes and hospitals around the state during elections to enable residents, patients, staff and visitors of residents or patients to vote.

Mobile voting teams will be visiting from Monday 29 April.

Vision impaired and assisted voting

VI-Vote terminals will be available throughout the voting period from Monday 15 April. These specially designed systems provide enhanced audio, visual and printing capabilities to enable independent voting for people with vision impairment or low vision.

Other options include postal voting or voting in person with assistance.
