I have called the Central Highlands municipality "home", since 2009. I am an Australian registered nurse, with Royal Hobart Hospital and correctional nursing experience. My RHH volunteer roles include: unit based council chairman and clinical council member, advising the Hospital South CEO. Previously, I have volunteered at the Central Highlands Visitor Centre.
As an elected councillor, I aim to bring these concerns to council: residential aged care facility, public transport, a bike/skate park, childcare and Bothwell playground upgrade. Thanks for your support.
I value community, family and history. I live in Bothwell and I am an active member of the CWA, and see the struggles many of our community face. If elected I want to create equitable access to childcare to provide local employment, to support existing families to stay, and to encourage new families and skilled workers to join our communities to boost our school numbers and enhance infrastructure. To do this I propose that we repurpose our magnificent historical buildings, not only to save them from ruin but to help the environment by reducing the resources used to build new ones.
After a long career in education, my wife and I decided to move permanently to the Central Highlands (a place we had been visiting for many years) in 2020. I have always placed a high value on community service, and quickly became involved in a range of local organisations and activities - often in leadership roles. I also became particularly interested in the performance and affairs of our local council, attending most monthly meetings over the last three years to gain some insight. I believe the time is now right for me, if elected, to make an effective contribution to our local governance.
I'm a proud Central Highlands resident, mother, registered nurse, and former councillor. I care deeply about our community's health, safety, and future. With experience in clinical safety and local government, I bring practical knowledge and a strong voice for families, services, and infrastructure. I'm committed to listening, advocating, and working hard for all residents.
I have strong ties to the Central Highlands, with my family living here for over five generations. I enjoy outdoor activities including camping and travelling. My background includes working with children and schools, food service and catering, tourism and management, accommodations, gardening and fundraising. I am an award-winning business owner, and I value honesty, transparency, and supporting my community. I aim to keep rates low during the cost-of-living crisis, and believe the Central Highlands is the best place in the world to live and work. Vote 1 Shelley Triffett, Thank you.
