Instructions

Follow these five easy steps:

1. Get to know the candidates

Candidates were invited to provide a statement and photo for your consideration. Statements are reproduced here as provided by the candidate.

Statements appear in alphabetical order but the order of names on ballot papers is rotated.

2. Record your vote

Number the boxes on each ballot paper from 1 onwards in the order of your choice.

For the election of 7 councillors, number the boxes from 1 to 14 in order of your choice. Number at least 5 boxes to make your vote count.

For the election of mayor, number the boxes from 1 to 4 in order of your choice. Number at least one box to make your vote count.

For the election of deputy mayor, number the boxes from 1 to 5 in the order of your choice. Number at least one box to make your vote count.

3. Make your vote secret

Put your completed ballot papers in the ballot paper envelope, which is the smaller envelope with the wider flap, and seal it securely.

4. Validate your vote

Sign your ballot paper envelope in the box on the flap to declare that you are the voter named on this envelope and you have voted on the ballot papers in this envelope. You must sign the envelope and leave the flap attached — or your vote won’t be counted. The returning officer will remove the flap with your details on it before opening the envelope.

Then put your ballot paper envelope in the reply-paid envelope — the larger envelope — and seal it.

5. Post your vote

Post your reply paid envelope straight away (no stamp needed), or take your vote to the Latrobe Council office.

Every part of our community deserves a Council that listens, acts, and delivers. As we grow, we need smarter ways to fund growth while getting the basics right: roads, infrastructure and essential services. I own and operate Lifestyle Gardens in Latrobe, and I understand the pressures facing local businesses, families and ratepayers. I stand for fair rates, clear communication and accountability for ratepayers’ money. I support health, sport, youth, volunteers and better-connected paths, trails and footpaths. Fair treatment for every ratepayer. Better value for every dollar.

Candidate for councillor, deputy mayor

Latrobe is growing. Let’s make sure we grow the right way. I’m a mechanical engineer with 30+ years’ experience across mining, construction, property development and infrastructure. I’ve been fortunate to call Latrobe home for all 52 years of my life, and I value the community and lifestyle that make it such a great place to live. Growth brings opportunity, but also responsibility. We need infrastructure, roads, services and facilities that keep pace while retaining our village character and community spirit. I’d like to put my practical experience and common sense to work for our community.

Candidate photo LOCKWOOD, Kristy

LOCKWOOD, Kristy

Candidate for councillor

I’m not running because I have all the answers. I’m running because I care about the community where I was born, raised my family and built my business. I want to protect the character and village feel we love while supporting thoughtful growth, local businesses and green spaces. I helped organise Eats and Beats, a local food, music and community event. Good councils need a mix of ages, experience and perspectives. As a small-business owner, photographer and mum, I’ll bring practical thinking, fresh ideas and, most importantly, a willingness to listen and represent our whole municipality.

I support balanced growth that values community wellbeing, creates opportunities for young people and families, and delivers reliable, quality council services.

Candidate photo WHITELEY, Brett

WHITELEY, Brett

Candidate for councillor, mayor

Leadership requires listening, experience to get outcomes & strength to stand up to those who would seek to take councils eye off the ball! There is a lot of talk, too much process & not enough common sense. We need a plan to make our community the best it can be, but we also need to get the simple things right. As mayor & councillor I will be a passionate advocate for what is in the best interest of our community. Less pressure on rates, improved council communication & major upgrades to outdated infrastructure. We can celebrate what we have & embrace the future. I ask for your No.1 vote.

Candidate photo WICKS, Gerrad

WICKS, Gerrad

Candidate for councillor, deputy mayor

I am 51 years old and have lived in Latrobe my whole life. I have worked here for over 30 years. I have been privileged to serve you for the past 12 years. I would be honoured to represent you for another term. This may be your last chance to vote for a true local representative, as local government areas may be changing. The Latrobe Dog Park is a project I am very proud to have established. Latrobe is diverse, yet we share one goal, to ensure Latrobe remains the best place to live and raise our families. For educated, open and transparent decisions, please vote 1 Gerrad Wicks for Latrobe.

Candidate photo WILSON, Brian

WILSON, Brian

Candidate for councillor

No spin. Just honest conversations, a listening ear, and a place at the table for all of us, from town to country. I want our towns to grow well, not just grow. Latrobe and the Port Sorell region are changing fast, bringing real opportunity, and a responsibility to stay ahead. Having previously run The Crowded Lounge in Latrobe alongside a busy lay preaching schedule, I'm ready to build on the solid foundation laid by those before us. I'm a team player and someone who thinks critically without resorting to criticism, testing ideas honestly to see good decisions through. I'd value your vote.

Publication of candidate statements and photographs

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission (TEC) publishes candidate statements and photographs under section 284 of the Local Government Act 1993. It does so in line with published requirements determined by the Commission, which apply equally to all candidates.

Statements and photographs are optional and must meet the published requirements for inclusion. Each candidate is allocated the same amount of space, whether or not a statement or photograph appears.

Statements are the candidates’ own words, and they are responsible for their content and accuracy. The TEC does not verify factual claims or endorse what a candidate says.

The TEC makes only limited, standard changes needed for consistent publication of candidate statements and photographs. It does not otherwise correct, rewrite or alter a candidate statement, or change a candidate’s appearance.

If a statement or photograph does not meet the approved requirements for publication, the TEC contacts the candidate and, where publication timelines allow, gives them one opportunity to provide a replacement.
