2026 local government postal voting guide

Not sure what to do with your postal ballot pack? This simple step-by-step guide explains how to complete and return your ballot papers correctly. It is available to download in eleven languages.

Postal ballot pack envelope

Between 5 and 9 October 2026, you will receive this envelope in your letterbox.

This is your postal ballot pack from the Tasmanian Electoral Commission.

You will use it to vote in your local government election.


Contents of a postal ballot pack

Your postal ballot pack contains:

  1. Ballot papers
  2. A booklet with statements from candidates and instructions for voting
  3. A ballot paper envelope
  4. A Reply Paid envelope

Ballot papers being numbered

On each ballot paper, number the boxes from 1 onwards in the order of your choice.

Follow the instructions on each ballot paper to see how many boxes you need to number for your vote to count.

Once you have completed all your ballot papers, place them inside the ballot paper envelope and seal it.

Sign your ballot paper envelope in the box on the back. Leave the signed flap attached.

Your vote will not be counted if the envelope is not signed or the flap is removed.

Place your ballot paper envelope inside the Reply Paid envelope and seal it.

Post your Reply Paid envelope as soon as possible. You do not need a stamp.

Your envelope must be received by 2 pm on Tuesday 27 October, so allow enough time for delivery.

If there is not enough time to post your Reply Paid envelope, you can take it to your local council office.

It must be received by 2 pm on Tuesday 27 October.
