Nominations have closed.
If you wish to stand as a candidate in either the Central Highlands or Dorset council by-election, nominations open at 9 am on Monday 18 August and close at 12 noon on Tuesday 26 August 2025.
To complete the nomination process, you need to submit one nomination form and one (optional) candidate statement. These forms are separate and can be completed at any time during the nomination period. It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that both are lodged by the close of nominations time and date above.
The term of office of the elected councillor will be until the completion of the next ordinary election, which is due to be held in September/October 2026.
The handbook contains detailed information about local government elections, including relevant procedures, processes for nominating and submitting candidate statements, and requirements regarding campaigning.
The handbook was produced for the 2022 local government elections, and a special supplement with details about these by-elections is also available.
If you would like a hard copy of the handbook, copies are available from the following locations:
You can also call the TEC on 1800 801 701 and we will post one to you.
