If you wish to stand as a candidate in these by-elections, nominations open at 9 am on Monday 24 February and close at 12 noon on Tuesday 4 March 2025.
The term of office of the elected mayor and councillor will be until the completion of the next ordinary election, which is due to be held in September/October 2026.

Nominations have closed
To complete the nomination process, you need to submit one nomination form and one (optional) candidate statement. These forms are separate and can be completed at any time during the nomination period. It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that both are lodged by 12 noon on Tuesday 4 March 2025.
Forms must be lodged with the returning officer or the appointed electoral officer at council. You can lodge your form by post, in person, by fax or by email. Lodgement details are provided below.

Nominations and candidate statements have closed.
Candidates are encouraged to provide a written statement and a photograph, which the TEC will include in the postal ballot pack sent to all electors in the Dorset Council local government area.
Your statement and photograph can be provided from 24 February, via the online form only. Statements must be received before the close of nominations at 12 noon on Tuesday 4 March 2025. Further information about candidate statements is also provided on page 5 of the candidate handbook.

All candidates must declare advertising expenditure by lodging an electoral advertising return no later than 45 days after the day on which the certificate of election is issued.
It is an offence not to complete and lodge a return with the Electoral Commissioner.
