The candidate nomination period opens at 9 am on Monday 7 September 2026.
All candidates are encouraged to submit their nomination as early as possible. Lodging early allows time to resolve any issues before nominations close.
Completed nomination forms must be lodged with the returning officer or appointed electoral officer at the relevant council before the closing time. Forms can be lodged in person, by email, fax or post before 12 noon on Monday 21 September 2026.
Late nominations cannot be accepted.
To nominate as a councillor, you must be enrolled in the local government area and have your principal place of residence in Tasmania.
You can only nominate as a councillor in one local government area.
Anyone who is eligible to nominate as a councillor is also eligible to nominate for the office of mayor or deputy mayor in the same local government area.
The TEC's preferred method for lodging nomination forms is by email: nominations@tec.tas.gov.au
During the nomination period, you will also be able to lodge your nomination form in person at the relevant election office. Lodgement details, including election office locations, postal addresses and contact information for each council, will be available from 4 September 2026.
You may also submit a candidate statement and photograph for publication to appear in election information provided to voters.
These are optional and separate from your nomination form (which is compulsory for all candidates).
